NATURE OF WORK:The Horticulture Specialist is responsible for the design, cultivation, care, and management of large-scale collections of botanical species of trees, palms, fruits, vegetables, shrubs, groundcovers, flowers, ornamental plants, and hardscapes. Such duties include planning and designing specialized areas and thematic displays throughout the Gardens seasonally employing Best Management Practices in horticulture. This position requires strong knowledge of plant science, and plant care techniques including pest control, soil management, and disease mitigation. Oversees staff, volunteer, and community service teams including scheduling, training, and supervising. Interacts with the visiting public and assists with Gardens special events, programs, and activities. The Horticulture Specialist may work in a variety of outdoor settings, such as the Gardens greenhouse and nursery under moderate supervision, and work is evaluated for quality control regularly through observations, discussions, and results obtained.

Minimum Requirements Associate's Degree in Horticulture or related field, and one (1) year of experience in Horticulture or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A
valid Florida Driver's License is required.
Florida Pesticide Application License is required within 90 days of employment. VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT.
